All three are good choices, but it's Matt Martin for me. Can barely even play hockey but somehow is considered good by some because of his high "Caresi".

All UFAs this year could be on that list. All are looking for more than they are worth.
Backes, Martin, Shultz, Russell, Demers, Lucic and on and on are on the ufa list because they wanted more from their teams than they are worth.
Milan Lucic is great player. Is he worth 6mil x 8yrs. Mmmm no. He isn't. Which is why the Kings let him walk. They didn't want another Brown length contract. And Lucic wouldn't budge on the term part. It was rumored he was looking for 7-8 yr contract which is lunacy in this day and age. If Edm or Cgy or Van give him that contract then that GM should be shot and fired for stupidity.

Also Wilson you are a bit off here. It is true his production has dipped but his load of defensive assignments rose.
Would characterize that same level of scoring in the okay offs? Because that counts for something but has also been in the past a danger for teams over paying on a contract for one great play off performance.
Keep in mind this past year there were a lot of injuries on the Blues and Hitchcock did not soread the ice very well and overloaded on his veterans like Backes. So that would also play into the numbers.
One must always balance the numbers with context. There is truth to his age and weariness to over pay or overcommit to term. But he is a player at forward I would take over most Nashville forwards now.
Perhaps it is just in division jealousy rearing its head to confirmation bias and the hope you no lnger have to see him so often punish your team's players?
his demeanor on the ice and in the dressing room always seems to be that of a spoiled baby
So Patrick Kane's demeanor except off the ice he is involved in animal rescue instead of consistent allegations of criminal activity? Yeah, can definitely see how a Blackhawks fan wouldn't think highly of that. Still salty about the playoff loss I guess.

I agree with Wilson on Backes. - John Jaeckel
The leadership comments were accurate until this season, I think he stepped up this year.
That being said, Wilson is correct in that he's on the downside of his career, he's played a lot of games and has taken a physical beating. I think he has only a couple of good seasons left in him.
Hoping someone overpays and takes him off the Blues hands.

Excuse me, what does Patrick Kane, or any non-free agent, have to do with the subject of this blog?
About as salty as I am about first round losses in 2011 and 2012 . . . sandwiched by three Cup wins.

Were you talking about this?
Still shoulder to jaw and Backes skated right into it, sorta like you did.
I got all day, bud.

But hey, you get an "A" for effort! - John Jaeckel
As was obvious to everyone but apparently you, you suggested Backes is a certain type of player and therefore isn't worth signing. It's then simple logic to see if other players who are guilty of what you accuse Backes of were worth signing.

Its ok to ignore his bait,
Wilson makes vaild points as to why you shouldn't sign Backes - sycsam
Wilson does, but you need to balance those numbers a bit due to situations.
In any event he will be an over paid third liner who can add to special teams, defensive play, physical forecheck, and step up to the top lines in event of injuries. As Armstrong noted, involving some thank you money but not too much.

JJ is having comments deleted here just like the Blackhawks thread, FYI. Apparently you aren't allowed to cal him out on being a troll, or post at the same level he does.
